Deciduous Forest Animals

The temperate deciduous forest is one of the more beautiful biomes in all of nature, providing us with a wealth of plants and animals known for their beauty and grace. Deciduous forest animals come from a couple of different places in the world, as this type of forest spans multiple continents. You can easily find parts of a deciduous forest in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, China, Japan, The Koreas, and Russia.

There are specific deciduous forest animals that are native to these different lands. While not every type of animal found in these types of forests are found in every location that this type of forest is found, most are going to be found in multiple locations. You can easily pinpoint what types of animals you will find in these climates when simply look at the forest.

Bald Eagle

The bald eagle is one of the most famous birds of prey, known for an incredible look and stoic stature. The bald eagle is the national bird of the United States of America, a symbol of strength. These birds are generally found in the United States (except for Hawaii), Canada, and the Northern parts of Mexico.

These deciduous forest animals are one of the more famous animals on the endangered species list, as issues with contaminated fish killed off a mass of the population. Efforts to save this deciduous forest animal have thrived, however, allowing the bird to be completely removed from any type of “endangered or threatened” animal list in 2007.

Bears

Bears have a somewhat stereotypical definition as more aggressive and menacing creatures, thanks to their portrayal in moves and their large, imposing size. While bears are strong and curious, one cannot help but be taken by their beauty. Brown bears and Asian black bears are some of the more popular and recognized bears in this particular biome. Bears are known for feasting on plant material and fish.

Beavers

Beavers are some of the most popular and well-loved animals, thanks to their interesting body and face design and their work. Beaver dams are known as true works of nature, and are common in the deciduous forest. They are an important part of the deciduous forest because of the work that they do in the biome. Taking down trees and creating dams creates an entirely different ecosystem that allows multiple animals to thrive. The ponds and standing deadwood created by these deciduous forest animals are actually beneficial to nature in multiple ways, helping to give animals shelter and to grow plant life.

Fox

Foxes are well known deciduous forest animals for their beautiful look and fur, especially those known as red foxes. Foxes actually have a very short life span, and will usually only see lives of three years. While they can live up to 10 to 15 years, most succumb to the threats of diseases and hunters.

Foxes are known for feeding on small animals like rodents and rabbits, but will also eat grasses and other natural products. There is plenty of controversy surrounding these deciduous forest animals because of the advent of the fox hunt. An age old tradition, the fox hunt is an even where a fox is released and members of the hunt will look to kill it for sport. Banned in many areas, this has been a point of contention for those trying to save deciduous forest animals and the fox.

Snakes

Snakes are incredible parts of our world in the sense that they are found in a wide variety of biomes. There are snakes that around found in the deciduous forest, although they tend to be smaller and less dangerous than snakes found in other parts of the world. These different snakes will vary drastically in size, and are known for their scaly skin. The molting of snakeskin is one of the most interesting aspects of nature, as the snake will completely shed the outer layer of skin and do so at once.

The sheer beauty of some of the different deciduous forest animals makes this one of the most relaxing and interesting biomes in all of nature. Whether you are marveling at the work of the beavers, the beauty of the fox, or the stoic nature of the bald eagle, you can appreciate their beauty and uniqueness.
