The deciduous forest biome is one of the most well known biomes in the world, and for a variety of reasons. Found in multiple locations all around the globe, the deciduous forest biome is envied for the wide variety of seasons that it has. People known of seasons like Winter, Summer, Spring, and Fall, and are interested in the stark contrast that is found throughout these seasons in the deciduous forest biome.
The deciduous forest biome is most prominent in North America but is round all across the globe. The Temperate Deciduous forest is found in both the Eastern and Western United States, Central Mexico, Canada, Europe, South America (Southern), West Asia, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, China, and Russia.
Climate
The climate of the deciduous forest biome is known for all of the varying temperatures and seasons, with each providing something different and unique. Summer is known for providing average temperatures that range from the 70s to the 90s, with some precipitation. Winter is known for averages that can range from 50 degrees to below freezing, providing al to of precipitation in the form of snow.
Spring is known for the amount of precipitation it brings and the incredibly beauty that comes with it. Spring is known for leaves growing again and for temperatures warming up, bringing the deciduous forest out of the cold and the winter and into the summer. Fall, on the other hand, is known for incredible colors and incredible beauty. The changing colors of the leaves that are about to fall off of the trees are recognized as one of the most beautiful natural phenomena in the world.
Plants
There are plenty of different plants from the deciduous forest biome that are known the world over. The Beech Tree is one of the most popular trees in the world, as is the White Birch and the White Oak. The Pecan tree is popular round the world for the Pecan nuts that it provides. Carpet Moss and Lady Ferns are just some of the many fern plants that are found around the world.
Most of the trees that are found in the deciduous forest biome will lose their leaves in the fall, which creates that beauty of fall. The loss of leaves and the severity of the change seen in the plants will depend on the specific area of deciduous forest, as each deciduous forest climate in the deciduous forest biome is slightly different.
One thing that all of these different deciduous forest climates have in common, however, is deforestation. The number of trees that are found in the deciduous forest biome are down to less than one-fourth of the amount of trees that were in the area a long time ago. The area continues to grow smaller as we continue to use the trees found in the deciduous forest biome for various materials in our everyday lives. Woods like Beech and Oak are highly sought after for everything from tables and stools to hardwood floors. The demand is simply shrinking the plant life in the deciduous forest biome, throwing off the overall eco-balance of the environment in the area.
Animals
Some of the most popular and well-known animals are found in the deciduous forest biome. Some of these animals are found in multiple locations, like bears, white-tailed deer and snakes. Others are only found in specific parts of the deciduous forest biome. The bald eagle is a bird that is distinct to parts of North America and most prominent in the United States. This once endangered bird has thrived in recent years and has been pulled off endangered lists, becoming the strong National Bird that it has always been considered once again.
The Duckbill Platypus is another animal found in the deciduous forest biome that is specific to certain regions. This particular animal lives in the Australian pats of the deciduous forest and no where else.
This highlights one of the mote beautiful aspects of the deciduous forest biome. Different biome areas and locations are going to feature completely unique settings. Some areas of the deciduous forest biome are going to have harsh winters, while others are going to feature very warm summers. Some areas are going to be able to behold the beauty of the bald eagle, while others are going to be able to watch the unique platypus swim. Each area of the deciduous forest biome is unique and interesting, providing incredibly beauty and diversity not often found in other parts of the world.
