Deciduous Forest Plants

The deciduous forest is known for many things, including the overall beauty of the seasons that it provides and the popularity of the animals that call this biome home. One of the most popular aspects of deciduous forest happen to be the trees, which are known for providing incredible beauty on a nearly year-round basis. Whether they are known for their foliage or for the loss of that foliage during the fall, deciduous forest plants are some of the most beautiful and most recognized in the world.

American Beech

The American Beech is known as one of the most popular types of tree in the entire world, as Beech wood is used for a wide variety of wood products. Found in the Eastern and Southern parts of the United States, this particular tree is known for thriving in conditions that feature a large amount of precipitation.

These tress are probably best known for their incredible size, growing upwards of 100 feet if given the proper precipitation and land area. These trees can grow beyond 60 feet in spread, which makes them an ideal tree for harvesting. You can get a lot of wood out of one singular American Beech tree. This is one of the many deciduous forest plants used to create, among other things, paper.

The American Beech provides the Beech Nut, an important part of the overall food chain in the deciduous forest. Black Bears, Rabbits, Deer, Squirrels, Foxes, and Opossums, among other animals, feed on these nuts and rely on them for a regular source of food.

Carpet Moss

Carpet Moss is one of the major deciduous forest plants and is located in various deciduous forest areas in Europe and North America. This specific plant is known for carpeting the grown and for turning a dark, deep green as it grows. This type of moss has become popular for those who like to garden but fails to have any other major use in the deciduous forest biome, save for being used as food by many smaller animals.

Pecan Trees

One of the most popular types of deciduous forest plants are Pecan Trees, known for the nuts that come from the tree itself. The trees are known for being able to reach incredible heights, with some nearly reaching 200 feet in height by the time they reach their full growing potential. Found in North America exclusively, Pecan trees provide Pecans, nuts that are popular all over the world. The nuts are particularly easy to harvest because they are not ready until they have fallen off of the tree and onto the ground.

White Oak

White Oak trees are deciduous forest plants that are very similar to the American Beech tree in terms of height, as the spread can grow out to nearly 80 feet and the tree can reach a height of nearly 100 feet. These different trees feature white-grey bark and are known for the incredible wood that they provide. These trees have been used for wood sources for centuries, as the wood is known for its beauty when used for things like tables and floors.

Lady Fern

The Lady Fern is one of the many different types of ferns that are round in deciduous forest climates. These deciduous forest plants are found in Europe, Asia, and North America. Known for their beauty, these ferns will only grow to be two to three feet tall. The plants are important for the ecosystem, as they are an important food source for multiple animals, including grizzly bears.

Losing the Leaves

The most popular facet of deciduous forest plants comes during the fall season. During the fall, most of the different trees in the deciduous forest will lose their leaves. The plants do not lose their leaves, however, without giving off a beautiful show. The leaves will turn varying shades of red, orange, yellow, and brown before finally falling off the tree. People will travel to various deciduous forest areas with heavy tree density to see the sheer beauty of the fall colors. The trees will remain without leaves during the winter season, and will start to grow them again during the spring season and will be fully functional during the summer.

The wide variety of deciduous forest plants and the incredible density of these different plans can provide some of the most beautiful natural settings possible. Along with the different deciduous forest animals, deciduous forest plants provide some of the most beautiful and diverse areas of the world.
